We’ve all heard the horror stories like “I had a Facebook group of 10,000 members and suddenly my group was gone”, or “My friend had an Instagram account with 50,000 followers and lost it all”. More disturbing, no one seems to know why this happens. But it’s a good reminder to NOT put all your eggs in one basket. You don’t own social media, but you own an email list.
I can’t stress enough how important it is that you start and maintain an email list of your customers. If Facebook or Instagram were to shut down, you will always have a way to reach your followers. Your list should be considered gold.
Maintaining your own email list means YOU own it and no one can take the data away from you.
So when I recently came across Bottlekeeper’s website (because I saw them on Shark Tank and I’m a Shark Tank junkie!) I was amused by their email subscriber pop-up!
Gamifying email captures is brilliant. Not only do people love to play games, but they love a good discount. As shop owners, we know how much our customers love free shipping, too.
A good example of gamifying is where you enter your email address. Then, the wheel spins and you find out what you win! Your customer gets a prize while you get their email to continue communicating with them.
If that wheel isn’t enticing enough to enter your email address, I don’t know what is! It’s fun, engaging and rewarding for their potential customer.
Gamify Email Tools
I believe this particular plugin is from Shopify, it’s called “Spin-A-Wheel” and it looks like the app starts at $9.99/mo. So if you have a Shopify store, click here to view the app. If you’re on WordPress I found a similar plugin called “Optin Wheel”, click here to check it out.
If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to capture email addresses and attract new customers, this is a great way to do it. I love a free app or plugin, but even if you have to pay a monthly fee, if you have enough new traffic on your website, it might be worth paying for.
Have you seen any other apps or plugins that gamify email captures? Tell me about it in the comments!
