How to Keep Consistent Store Hours as a Shopkeeper

Being a brick and mortar store owner can be challenging.  I know!  I run a home decor boutique with my sister. When you’re running a store solo, or maybe with just one employee, the weight of being open is on YOU. You set your store hours and know you should stick with them, but it’s…

Shop Owners: 5 Reasons to Pay Yourself NOW

The topic of “paying yourself” comes up fairly often in our membership groups. It always surprises me that at least half of the shop owners in the group don’t pay themselves. And I have to tell you, this topic tugs at me almost daily. I often tell myself that I’m going to find a way…

Facebook for Retailers Series: What is the Value of a Facebook Business Page?

Is a Facebook Page worth more than a website? This is what I want you to think about in this series. So what better way to start than by taking a look at MY OWN Facebook Business Page: My sister and I own a small home decor boutique in Lakewood, Ohio. For our business, we have…

Hey! It is nice to meet you!

My name is Kathy Cruz! I’m a fellow retail business owner and Retail Coach.  My journey into retail started in 2013 when I launched a creative DIY blog with my sister.  We grew from a blog to a brick and mortar home decor store in 2 years.

During this time, I took my deep passion for learning all-things-retail and launched a second blog, Savvy Shopkeeper so I could help other retailers just like me.

The Savvy Shopkeeper blog has also taken a journey.  From a blog to a podcast and an online Academy just for retailers.

I’m on a mission to help independent retail business owners work less, profit more and grow! I’m glad you’re here and hope you find the information I share helpful.

128. Marketing Your Retail Business: Can We Flip The 80/20 Social Media Rule On Its Head?! - Savvy Shopkeeper Retail Podcast

It’s easy to get stuck in autopilot when we’re marketing our indie retail businesses, especially when we’ve heard the same marketing “rules” over and over again!  One of the most common rules you’ll hear is to focus 80 percent of your social media content on engaging or educational content, and the other 20 percent on selling.  But with social media coming in a distant second (or even dead last, in some studies) compared to other marketing efforts, the return on your social media effort might not be reflected in your sales!  So, where should you focus your effort instead? Listen in to learn where the 80/20 misconception comes from and how to actually apply it to your marketing strategy.
