Questions To Ask Before You Choose a POS and Website

This topic has been weighing heavily on me. I’m guessing this will be the first of many blog posts, conversations, and workshops in the future with many questions to come. Shop owners are choosing their Point of Sale systems and Website platforms blindly and it could be costing you many hours of frustrations and a…

Gamify Your Email Captures to Get More Subscribers

We’ve all heard the horror stories like “I had a Facebook group of 10,000 members and suddenly my group was gone”, or “My friend had an Instagram account with 50,000 followers and lost it all”. More disturbing, no one seems to know why this happens. But it’s a good reminder to NOT put all your…

Darice Blog Post Round-Up

2022 UPDATE: Unfortunately, Darice closed in 2021 so you’ll find their website, offer and blog are no longer active. However, I am repurposing all the content I wrote for them and I’ll be sharing it here on my own blog in the future. In December of 2018, Darice officially announced that I was one of their…

Why I Work from Home One Day Each Week

I became a full-time entrepreneur almost 2 years ago. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that I have to keep myself focused when I work. I co-own The Salvaged Boutique with my sister, Karen. Over the years working with me, she identified that she will focus on one project at a time and that I, on…

How to Price Products in a Retail Store

The topic of pricing comes up often with retail store owners. Whether you own a brick and mortar store or an online shop, if you’re buying wholesale and reselling the goods in your shop, pricing is an important aspect of your business. I often find that shop owners think that pricing is a one-size-fits-all strategy,…

The Importance of Facebook Autoresponder Messages

Making a good first impression is important.  If you have a decent following on Facebook, you may want to think about your Facebook Messenger strategy. When a customer sends you a message on Facebook, have you thought about the journey you can take them on once they visit your page or have a question for…

Hey! It is nice to meet you!

My name is Kathy Cruz! I’m a fellow retail business owner and Retail Coach.  My journey into retail started in 2013 when I launched a creative DIY blog with my sister.  We grew from a blog to a brick and mortar home decor store in 2 years.

During this time, I took my deep passion for learning all-things-retail and launched a second blog, Savvy Shopkeeper so I could help other retailers just like me.

The Savvy Shopkeeper blog has also taken a journey.  From a blog to a podcast and an online Academy just for retailers.

I’m on a mission to help independent retail business owners work less, profit more and grow! I’m glad you’re here and hope you find the information I share helpful.

Hitting a slow season in retail can be disheartening, especially for indie retailers. It’s easy to get discouraged when sales are down! But instead of focusing on the lack of sales, let’s consider how to make the most of your slow season—and what you can do to profit during it.  Listen in to learn the greatest gift of a slow season, what you shouldn’t focus on, and what you absolutely should do to make the most of a slow season in your business.
